Welcome back from Fall Break! I hope everyone had a relaxing time with their families!! We are back in the swing of things and have started our new Quarter 2 curriculum. Quarter 1 Math CFAs were given the week before break, and went home with students this week for you to see. Students have been grouped according to the skills they still need for acceleration groups. These groups meet for 30 minutes daily, and focus specifically on the skills that students did not master on the CFA. These groups are a great way to provide continued practice on these very important skills.
This week we began a new unit on fractions. We began the unit by learning about factors and multiples.
Factors are the numbers that can be multiplied to produce a given product.
For example:
Factors of 24 are 1,2,3,4,6,8,12, and 24 (because all of the facts: 1x24, 2x12, 3x8, 4x6 equal 24!)
Multiples are the "Products" or "Answers" that you get when multiplying a given number.
For example:
Multiples of 8 are 8,16,24,32,40,48,56,64,72,80... (they go on forever)
Next week we will work with identifying fractions. We will also learn about mixed numbers and improper fractions.
